Year 4 Carnival Hat Making 2023
Year 4 were fortunate enough to take part in an amazing hands-on workshop with Teresa Grimaldi and the Sandown Carnival team making some fantastic recyclable seed paper hats. The novel headwear can be planted after it's worn at Sandown Bay Regatta!
Sandown Carnival's hat-making session enhanced the artistic development of our Year 4 pupils through a creative and engaging approach. Their participation allowed them to embrace an extracurricular activity while fostering curiosity and personal growth. The children were intrigued by the compostable material provided to make the hats and experimenting with it sparked a lot of enthusiasm and marvellous creations! Pupils reported their excitement of the resources provided by the team and actively asked for “more days like this”.
Broadlea Primary are active participants in the Sandown Carnival and this session gave children another chance to work alongside the fantastic Sandown Carnival guests and allowed us to strengthen our ties with the local community. Their knowledge of previous hat parades at the Sandown Regatta inspired pupils, opened up opportunities to learn about our local history and provided further experiences outside the classroom.
We were left feeling inspired and enthusiastic about participating in the Sandown Regatta this summer and look forward to more collaborative projects!
